10 Essential Blog Post Types for any Business
If you’re in need of a few ideas to get your blog started, here’s a place to kick it off and get some bases covered.
Hi Reader, No matter what type of business you run, whether it's service-based, product-based, or learning-focused, blogging is one of the most powerful tools to capture attention through search, build authority, engage your audience, and improve your overall marketing strategy.
Here are 10 essential blog post types that every business can benefit from having:
Your Story: Share your business's journey, mission, and values. These posts help to humanise your brand and connect with your audience on a deeper level, as well as to help people to see your original motivations and how far you’ve come since. To make this more of a series, you can break it down into detailed stories of multiple instances across a few years, and write a new edition at least once a year.
How-to Guides & Tutorials: Whether you're in services, products, or education, people love learning how to solve problems. Create step-by-step guides that walk your audience through common challenges in your field.
Customer Testimonials & Success Stories: Showcase the results you've achieved for clients or students. Social proof is a powerful tool to build trust and show the value of what you offer. If there’s a common thread amongst a group, combine them into one post and tell a bit of a story.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ): Address the most common questions your clients or customers have in individual posts. This will save time for both you and your audience, while also providing clarity on your services or products. By sharing them individually, you can match those unique searches.
Case Studies: Dive into detailed examples of how your service, product, or course helped a specific client or customer. This will build trust and illustrate real-world application. It can also show off the variety of people you work with, or who buy your products.
Product/Service Deep Dives: Highlight specific products or services you offer, explaining the benefits, features, and unique value. This can be linked on the product detail page for product-based businesses, or showcased throughout the process for others. This could be formatted in a way to show the experience they will have as they go through the process.
Industry Insights & Trends: Establish your authority by sharing your thoughts on current trends in your industry. Stay up-to-date with what's happening and how it impacts your audience, to bridge the gap to help them understand it too.
Behind-the-Scenes: Give readers a peek into your business operations, production process, or team dynamics. It’s an opportunity to show the personal side of your business, and how you make it all happen.
Resource Lists or Tool Recommendations: Share helpful resources, tools, or apps that your audience can use to improve their work or business. This is especially valuable for service or learning-based businesses. It could be formatted around your tech stack, interviewing other’s on theirs, or by simply breaking down the options people have and explaining the differences so they can decide what is best.
Your Business’s Philosophy & Approach: Explain how your approach sets you apart from competitors. Share your unique methodology or philosophy to help your audience understand the value only you can bring.
Having a mix of these blog posts ensures that you’re covering all the key aspects of your business and providing value at every touchpoint. These posts also work together to improve your SEO, build credibility, and engage your audience.
You can then repurpose these posts in other formats, like on social media, and recount them in interviews or on calls with people.
Start simple. Just pick one, and get typing. See what comes out.

Finding a better way can often mean finding a more calm way to do your marketing... Hi Reader, I totally get it! Doing your marketing sometimes feels like a little too much. You’re busy, and you don’t want to put time into something that might not work. It’s also a little vulnerable putting yourself out there. On the latest episode of the podcast, Rachel Posner, a yoga therapist and mindfulness coach, told me about the window of tolerance. It’s a psychological concept of the optimal zone to...
What do your customers need to know before they buy? How are you making sure that your marketing covers those needs? Hi Reader, Creating marketing content for your audience is great and all, but if you don’t show them the things they need to know to make that purchase, they will only keep a somewhat superficial attachment to your brand, and most won’t end up purchasing. They need to be aware of your offer, but for every business there are a few extra things people need to know. These things...
Tell me what you want What you really, really want Hi Reader, Being in community helps you feel less alone in business, gives you access to opportunities, genuine connection and referrals. But the best thing community gives you, for your marketing at least, is the fresh perspectives and collective learning. The part I love most about being engaged in the community any business operates in, is that you hear what the market wants, needs, or is getting stuck on. You’ll find out about trends (not...
