Hi Reader, The thing you choose might be the one you enjoy most, or the one that you believe will have the biggest impact. It might be what worked most for you last year, or even something that will hopefully better set you up for 2025. This week’s episode of the podcast is all about finding that focus.
I like to choose a phrase of the year (I explain more about why in the episode) and for the last few years, I’ve been able to choose something that fits all areas of my life. Last year, my phrase was “Less is More”. I was able to downsize my belongings, focus on the key elements of my health after getting a real diagnosis, I reduced my service menu, and was able to focus on fewer platforms in my marketing. I obviously did other things, but that was my focus, almost every day. I choose my focus for the year based on how I want to work, and where I want to be putting my energy. Naturally, I want that energy to make the next year simpler, and to create something that is fun, and works for me. Here are some questions I like to think about when choosing my focus:
A lot of the time I also choose a monthly focus. That might not always relate to the phrase of the year, but is descriptive of the focus for those coming weeks. That means I can have a few different focuses throughout the year, almost like side-quests, but I find that limiting the time period to focus on that side-quest keeps me more on track and productive overall. I’d love to hear all about what you have planned for the new year, what you want to focus on, and if you’ve chosen a word or phrase of the year, so hit reply and tell me all about it! Welcome to silly season... There are 14 decisions that help you run a strategic sale, to generate profit and curate a positive experience for your customers. Hi Reader, This week’s episode of the podcast is all about sale season. When we see others running sales, we feel a certain pressure to run one too, and for it to be just as big. In all reality, a big sale might not be a profitable decision for your business. I wanted to take that question of “should I”, and add in the “what” “when”...
Finding a better way can often mean finding a more calm way to do your marketing... Hi Reader, I totally get it! Doing your marketing sometimes feels like a little too much. You’re busy, and you don’t want to put time into something that might not work. It’s also a little vulnerable putting yourself out there. On the latest episode of the podcast, Rachel Posner, a yoga therapist and mindfulness coach, told me about the window of tolerance. It’s a psychological concept of the optimal zone to...
What do your customers need to know before they buy? How are you making sure that your marketing covers those needs? Hi Reader, Creating marketing content for your audience is great and all, but if you don’t show them the things they need to know to make that purchase, they will only keep a somewhat superficial attachment to your brand, and most won’t end up purchasing. They need to be aware of your offer, but for every business there are a few extra things people need to know. These things...
